Confidentiality and General Data Protection Regulation

General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into force in May 2018. Essentially, these regulations cover much the same ground as Information Governance, but they lay more emphasis on written policies and procedures and on organisations, such as Virtual Assistants taking responsibility for handling personal information they hold for individuals and how it is managed.

PJ’s VA Services is responsible for the protection of personal information entrusted to us.

With regards to working for clients that deal with patient care, most of the data we hold about our clients’ patients is on the client’s clinical computer system.

There may also be instances where we ask permission to share your personal details with other health services, for example if we are asked by our clients to send referrals on for further treatment.  We may also need to store details of next-of-kin details and emergency contact telephone numbers; we might ask your permission to share it with your NHS GP and any other relevant service so that they would have access to the information in the event that we were not contactable, or our offices were closed.

For clients where we do not handle patient data, we may need to share bank details, contact details, email, addresses or other personal details with relevant parties.  We obtain your permission before any information is shared.

You are entitled to refuse permission for any of these data sharing arrangements and, if you do so, your decision will be recorded on your notes and data sharing will not occur.

If you have any questions about this privacy policy, including any requests to exercise your legal rights, please contact us using the details set out below.
